Perhaps there is no desire more adolescent than the desire to escape—from the rules from the routine from childhood To Lola that desire takes a very concrete shape—going away to Germany as an exchange student Lola doesn’t seem particularly rebellious that would be Julieta her older sister Lola has a few pending subjects goes to shows has arguments with her family every once in a while But her life like that of her parents is pierced by an earthquake—Julieta’s mental problems and her recurring crises Fed up with remaining in a discreet background the desire for freedom begins to grow in Lola more and more As in any good film about adolescence Alemania is a bit melancholy To Lola growing up is a learning process but it’s also a mourning period the rehearsal of a farewell from all that is necessary to leave behind
